  • Prairie City, Oregon is celebrating Oregon's 150th Birthday with a BUFFALO BILL'S WILD WEST SHOW on May 9th Produced by Montie Montana Jr.

Opening with a parade in down town Prairie City at 10:00am. Reveille and raising of the flag at the Dixie Town show grounds at 11:00am followed by two Wild West Shows at 1:00pm and 5:00pm.

Known as one of the most colorful figures of the Old West, Colonel William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody, played a role in almost every key event of westward expansion. He is most remembered for his Wild West Show that brought the excitement of the old west to those who had little contact with it.

    Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show

Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World, became the most successful touring show of all time. Traveling throughout America and Europe, his shows thrilled audiences with feats of skill, stagecoach robberies, staged Indian attacks, races and sideshows.

Many famous personalities of the time such as; Sitting Bull, Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, Frank Butler and Wild Bill Hickok were featured in his shows. It is reported that Colonel Cody's last words were: "Let my show go on!"

The show's producer, Montie Montana, Jr., will emcee the festivities and brings with him some of the top performers from all over the country. Pat Stoddard from the Dakotas demonstrates his unique ability with the bow and arrow from a running horse and hitting a moving target. The Glory Riders, a group of equestriennes from California will add to the Grand Entry. Larry Daylight, from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the three time World's Champion Indian dancer will head up the Native American contingent with authentic Indian dances and sign language. Roman Rider, Sally Bishop from Alberta, Canada will perform the difficult art of Roman Riding. Ken and Kent Durham from Texas will do an exhibition of trick and fancy horse catches. Brian Potter from Alabama adds hilarious comedy to the show with his portrayal of "Fanny Oakley" and a bunch of other cowboy comedy. A stagecoach holdup, wagon train attack and more round out the show.

Montie Montana Jr. and four generations of the Montana family have taken the show to 26 countries. Montie appeared when he was just three years old in 1938 with his parents for his first show at the Pacific International Exposition in Portland. Montie says, "Coming to Oregon is like coming back to where I got started." So, don't let this historic opportunity pass you by! Join us for a day in the Old West.

  • Camp Logan Days
  • May 9th, 2009 (one day only)
  • 7th Annual Camp Logan Days Living History reenactment. Did you know that at Camp Logan there was an officer who was an author? How about that there was an officer who came to Grant County who was later at the Battle of the Little Big Horn? Camp Logan was a military post close to present day Prairie City and was established in 1865 by the First Oregon Volunteers and then later occupied by the regular army. It remained until 1869. Camp Logan was part of the Department of the Columbia that consisted of the State of Oregon, Washington Territory and Idaho Territory and the Territory of Alaska was added in 1870. Other posts in the Department included Camp Watson and Fort Klamath to name a few. The Headquarters was moved to Portland from Fort Vancouver in 1867. You will have the opportunity to step back in time and relive the year 1867 and see what life was like at the military camp and the town of Dixie.
